Here’s what happens when you let the inmates run the asylum. Robb decided he wanted to update our reader-board in our entryway with a nice holiday message. His original take was funny, if perhaps a little blunt:

Then, with a spark of creative holiday spirit (and the change of a single letter), he changed it to the more festive display:

Well done, Robb. And “Happy Elfing Holidays” to you too.

Every few years or so, we throw a party to celebrate our company birthday and we always invite our clients to be a part of the celebration. Our favorite party to date was our Spinal Tap themed "Bullseye Turns It Up To Eleven" party that took place in May 2008. It was a loud, raucous, carefully-planned, rock-n-roll party like nothing we'd ever done before. And we rocked it.

Yes, we really do. Literally. We’re in the business of developing long-term relationships (that rock) with our clients that extend beyond their brands and campaigns. What our clients love about us, besides our (rockin’) work, is that we become a part of their lives, and they become a part of ours. Every few years or so, we throw a party to celebrate our company birthday and we always invite our clients to be a part of the celebration.

Our favorite party to date, and one that our clients talk about most, is our “Bullseye Turns It Up To 11″ party. Planning began many months before the big night. We held many brainstorming sessions with the creative crew discussing exactly how we’d like to wow our clients, friends, family and ourselves this time around. We chose our party’s theme for three important reasons. First, because our Bullseye family was 11 years old. Secondly, Bullseye is Seattle’s loudest Rock n Roll firm – so we needed to represent that in the creative. Lastly, we are lovers of pop culture. For the uninitiated, the phrase “turning it up to 11″ or “this one goes to 11″ is a popular line from famous mockumentary, “This is Spinal Tap”. Wikipedia describes “Up to eleven” or “these go to eleven” as phrases from pop culture which have come to mean anything being exploited to its utmost abilities (which is what we do). Similarly, the expression “turning it up to eleven” may refer to the act of taking something to an extreme. (Like marketing, and great creative!) This made a Spinal Tap themed party the obvious choice.

Watch this video snippet and you’ll see what we mean.

In true rock fashion, we sent out signed and numbered screen-printed concert posters as invitations, with a follow up online RSVP. We prepped our office, turning it into a rock club and painted rockstar quotes and a 13-foot winged and flaming Bullseye logo on our walls. We hired The Great Nabob as bartenders and brainstormed specialty rock drinks as well as contracted Gallucci’s Catering to design, cook and serve our rock menu. One of our favorite rock-star quotes, “For Those About to Rock, We Salute You” (AC/DC) stands as a testament to how we see our clients – as those about to rock. Our clients had a great time that night – they got an opportunity to see a different creative side of Bullseye, and we got to show them how much we appreciate them. Bottom line is, we rocked it.

We created an online post-party site. Check it out. Stay tuned for news of the next over-the-top event!

After my last post on Apple logo wallpapers, I’ve been feeling the itch to create my own. I wanted something that certainly captured the retro feel of the old logo but was clean enough to leave up on my desktop to use as a work space. I sat down this morning before lunch with some ideas in-hand and whipped up something I could use at work. I wanted to write a quick post here to share the wallpaper for your personal use.

It’s time for my annual list where I review the Top 10 Bullseye Blog posts and rank them in order of how much they appeal to me. Here goes:

#10: “Happy Holidays, from Bullseye” by Heather B. This one is ranked dead last simply because it makes my jawline look like Howdy Doody when I’m clearly more of a Charlie McCarthy type.

#9: “spacious thought” by Peter N. It just freaked me out. Who is this Tom Waits guy and why has he invaded my nightmares?

#8: “Office Art” by Jamie M. It doesn’t work. I’ve stared at this thing for hours now (I know, right?) and all I occasionally see is a slice of pie and a Twinkie. Maybe I shouldn’t be reading blogs on an empty stomach.

#7: “Pumpkin Carving” by Rick P. This one didn’t make me look too bad, but that’s only because it DIDN’T EVEN INCLUDE ME. Jeez! I swear, do I even work at this place? (sometimes I wonder).

#6: “iPhone Dragon Diction Review” by Travis K. I didn’t actually read this one. And based on the low number of comments, neither did anyone else.

#5 (tie): “Social Media Magic” by Jamie M. and “Customer Persona Development” by Travis K. These are both good stuff, but they are basically thinly veiled advertisements for Bullseye. So, to play “impartial judge” I placed both of these squarely in the middle of the pack.

#4: “iPhone Task Management App Review” by Travis K. A solid review, and most of the words are spelled correctly.

#3: “My Life in Technicolor, Photoshop Tutorial” by Rick P. It’s a long blog entry, so I haven’t read it. But I hear it’s good. [editor's note: this post was removed since it actually sucked. I finally read it and found it offensive and distasteful.]

#2: “Decade in Review: Zeitgeist Art” by Rick P. This is pretty amazing. Although, I was never sure what Rick was working on all of those hours, I now see it’s a really cool summary of the past decade, one which no one will actually read (I only made it to 2003 before I started to just scan the rest).

#1: “Top 10 Bullseye Blog Posts of 2009″ by Peter K. Pure brilliance. Total originality. When was the last time you read a Top 10 list on a blog? And at this time of year, no less.

I love to play with interactive video like the one’s you can find at JibJab. I decided what better way to use my full access JibJab account than to create a “holiday” video using some Bullseye crew faces. Unfortch, JibJab has created videos that only allow a max of five faces per vid, and Bullseye has eight on the crew. So to those of you that were left out: Don’t worry, your vid is coming soon.

It’s that time of year again; the time when the air gets a little colder, snow flakes fall from the sky, and it feels great to bundle up under a nice warm blanket on a cold winter’s evening. Wait -

No, it’s not that time of year (yet). It’s the time of year when sticking your hands inside a freshly-opened squash and pulling out its slimy tangled guts seems like a really good idea. So, in the spirit of tradition, Bullseye employees rolled up their sleeves, removed watches (almost), and got to work creating the best jack-o-lanterns in Seattle.

The event kicked off with picking pumpkins, giving them a quick bath, cutting the tops, and removing the seeds. It got pretty messy, but bags were provided.

Travis then decided that Heather’s pumpkin made a good hat.

As people settled into their designs, unique style really started to emerge from the crew. Continuing to buck the trend (but not while wearing Heather’s pumpkin), Travis broke out the power drill and crafted a one-of-a-kind pumpkin from spare parts found around the office. Eventually the finished pumpkins began to take their place near James’ desk for lighting and photos.
